How To Make Friends on the Internet

Making friends can be difficult for many people, for many different reasons. Maybe it is shyness that is the problem, lack of time, confidence or maybe just not getting the chance. The internet is a wonderful tool for making new friends, for everyone. There are so many websites and groups on the internet that focus on a specific subject, and this is a fantastic place to start.
Think of something that really interests you, it could be something you are currently involved with, or a completely new topic or hobby that interests you. Finding a website that focuses on a subject or hobby that you like is obviously going to attract other people who have that very interest, and many of these sites will offer a chat room/ board facility, enabling you to join in in conversations, or start a thread of your own. Before you know it the names and people will become familiar and great friendships are often formed from this common ground.
It can be quite daunting to go out into the ‘real’ world with the intention of meeting new friends, but behind the screen in the comfort of your own home, and when it is convenient for you are all plus points using the internet to make friends. Of course needless to say it is extremely important to be safe while doing so. Never give out any personal information, you have to bare in mind that you could actually be talking to anybody, not everyone is who they say they are. Keep your location to yourself, and tread carefully until a true friendship is formed, and enjoy the company of some wonderful people.
